HAWKS

Hawk in pine tree Hawk on utility wire

Hawks, like the Osprey and Bald Eagle seem to favor our area of Florida as well. We’ve had a nesting pair in our yard for the past two years and they make quite a racket when they go a’courtin’!!!!!

Hawk flying overhead

Now, normally I love the mournful yet shrill call of a red-shouldered hawk and look for its swooping wings in the sky. Sometimes, though, I cringe because it may mean that my little yardlings (doves, etc.) are the object of its keen eye. At times, I find a scattering of plumage in the yard and it takes a million mantras for me to remember that nature is the way it is. Foolishly, I once tried to save a baby Blue Jay from a hawk. Suffice it to say that interfering with Nature is not the way to go!!

Hawk in Palm tree

I usually see hawks balancing on utility wires all over the place so it was a surprise to find this gorgeous red-shouldered posing in a palm tree.
